Arsenal Poised for Major Midfield Acquisition as Top Club Agrees to Sell Star Player
Arsenal has received a significant boost in their summer transfer plans as a major European club signals their readiness to sell one of Mikel Arteta’s prime targets. With the midfield a priority, the Gunners are actively seeking reinforcements to bolster their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.
Despite securing Declan Rice last summer, Arsenal’s need for midfield depth persists. Albert Sambi Lokonga is likely to depart after his loan spell with Luton Town, and Mohamed Elneny has left as a free agent. Additionally, Thomas Partey’s future remains uncertain amid links to Saudi Arabia, while Jorginho, despite signing a new contract, is approaching the twilight of his career.
Current Arsenal Midfield Options:
- Jorginho (32)
- Declan Rice (25)
- Thomas Partey (31)
- Martin Odegaard (25)
- Emile Smith Rowe (23)
- Fabio Vieira (24)
With a deeper midfielder a priority, Arsenal has been linked to players like Everton’s Amadou Onana and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. However, the latest developments suggest that they might land an even more prestigious target.
Arsenal in the Race for Joshua Kimmich
Arsenal has emerged as a potential destination for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, who could be on the move this summer. The 29-year-old, in the final year of his £315,000-a-week contract with Bayern, is rumored to be considering his options. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, a departure is “becoming increasingly likely,” with both Kimmich and Bayern open to a transfer.
Bayern is “willing to sell him this transfer window,” although final decisions will be deferred until after the European Championships, where Kimmich has been instrumental in Germany’s progress to the knockout stages. Kimmich has previously expressed interest in joining Arsenal, with reports of contact between his camp and the Gunners dating back to April.
Kimmich’s Versatility and Talent
Regarded as one of the world’s finest players, Kimmich’s versatility is unmatched. Former Inter and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho praised him, saying, “I see him as a top right-back, left-back, center-back, No.6, No.8, No.10… he has the qualities to be anything! He’s very intelligent, understands the game, and adapts to different positions seamlessly. He’s phenomenal.”
Arsenal is well aware of Kimmich’s abilities, having experienced his decisive goal that knocked them out of the Champions League last season. Should he leave Bayern, Kimmich would consider moving to one of five clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
