Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has given fans an update on the fitness of five important first-team players as the Red Devils prepare for their upcoming match against Burnley this Saturday.
The start of the season has not gone as planned for Manchester United, as they currently find themselves in 13th place in the Premier League. A string of three consecutive defeats across all competitions, including a recent 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich, has cast a cloud over the team’s performance. However, the visit to Burnley offers an opportunity to reverse their fortunes.
Ten Hag was asked about the status of several United regulars who have been sidelined due to injuries. The absence of key players like Raphael Varane, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Tyrell Malacia, and Harry Maguire has been keenly felt by the team.
Regarding their potential returns, Ten Hag had this to say:
- Harry Maguire: There’s hope that Maguire may be the closest to returning after he missed the trip to Munich due to discomfort following a training session. Ten Hag mentioned that Maguire’s status would become clearer after Friday’s training session.
- Raphael Varane: Varane is set to return to training, and his availability for the upcoming matches will depend on his progress.
- Sofyan Amrabat: Amrabat, who was signed by United in the summer, has yet to make an appearance due to a stress fracture in his back. Ten Hag stated that Amrabat will return to training, but his timeline for game action remains uncertain.
- Mason Mount: Mount, who joined the club for £55 million, played only two games before sustaining a hamstring injury during a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham. Ten Hag indicated that Mount would also return to training soon.
- Tyrell Malacia: Malacia has yet to feature for United this season, and his status remains undisclosed.
Manchester United has faced significant injury challenges early in the season, impacting their performance. The return of these key players could prove pivotal in their quest for success.
