In a remarkable twist of fate, a key Manchester United player is currently in discussions for a contract extension, merely nine months after being on the verge of departing the club, according to a reliable source.

Upon taking the reins at Old Trafford, one of Erik ten Hag’s primary objectives was to bolster the right-back position with a more attack-minded option. The established choices in this position were Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, both known for their defensive prowess but less influential in offensive contributions.

Prior to last season’s World Cup break, Dalot was favored by Ten Hag. During this period, speculation surrounding Wan-Bissaka’s potential departure from the club was rampant. In fact, the reputable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed that not only was Wan-Bissaka poised to exit, but the club had identified a direct replacement.

“Back in November and December, Manchester United was actively seeking a new right-back,” revealed Romano through his YouTube channel. “Wan-Bissaka was expected to leave due to a challenging start to the season. They were prepared to sign a new right-back.”

The player in question was Josip Juranovic, a Croatian right-back who was then with Celtic and currently represents Union Berlin. However, the dynamics shifted drastically.

Wan-Bissaka’s fortunes experienced a dramatic turnaround with a series of impressive performances following the World Cup. Consequently, he overtook Dalot to become Ten Hag’s first-choice right-back.

Fast forward to the present, and Fabrizio Romano provides an intriguing update: Aaron Wan-Bissaka is currently engaged in discussions for a new contract with Manchester United.

“The discussions between Manchester United and Wan-Bissaka’s representatives regarding a new contract are ongoing,” Romano stated. “While an agreement has not yet been reached, the negotiations are in progress.”

Wan-Bissaka’s existing contract is set to expire at the end of the season, although Manchester United possesses an option for an additional 12 months. However, the club is actively working on securing a longer-term contract for Wan-Bissaka, who can anticipate a substantial increase from his current £100,000-a-week wages, as reported by the Daily Mail.

This astonishing turn of events underscores the resilience and determination of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has firmly reclaimed his place at Manchester United and now stands on the cusp of extending his stay at Old Trafford.
