Manchester United Targets Fulham’s Rapid Fullback for Summer Transfer

Manchester United is considering a surprising move for Fulham’s dynamic defender Antonee Robinson in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are yet to finalize Erik ten Hag’s future as their manager. This decision is imminent, but regardless of the managerial outcome, Manchester United needs reinforcements across several key areas.

One critical position for the next United manager will be left-back.

Manchester United’s Interest in Antonee Robinson and Other Left-Backs

Injuries plagued Manchester United during the 2023/24 season. While Erik ten Hag faced significant criticism for the team’s performances, the absence of many key players throughout the campaign warrants some sympathy.

Left-back was particularly problematic. Luke Shaw barely played 1000 minutes in the Premier League, and Tyrell Malacia missed the entire season due to injury. This forced Ten Hag to frequently deploy Aaron Wan-Bissaka in an unnatural left-back role, a less-than-ideal solution.

Manchester United is now focused on signing a new left-back this summer, with three Premier League defenders on their shortlist. These include Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, linked with Chelsea, Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Fulham’s standout performer Antonee Robinson.

Robinson, an international for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), was arguably Fulham’s best player last season. He missed just one Premier League game, tallying six assists in 37 matches and impressing with his overlapping runs.

Having signed a new contract with Fulham in July 2023, Robinson is secured until the summer of 2028. This strengthens Fulham’s position in any potential transfer negotiations. However, if Manchester United is determined, they likely have the means to secure his transfer.

Robinson’s Blistering Pace Caught United’s Attention

One of Robinson’s most impressive attributes is his speed. The 26-year-old is exceptionally fast, making him a formidable presence on the field. This trait has certainly caught Manchester United’s attention.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Robinson showcased his speed, clocking a top speed of 21.99 mph in the group stage—faster than Kylian Mbappe, according to Sky Sports.

Pairing Robinson with someone like Alejandro Garnacho on Manchester United’s left flank could create significant challenges for opponents in the upcoming season.
