Manchester United may already be setting the stage for their first signings under the INEOS ownership, following a visit from a pair of agents to Old Trafford last week. This comes as the club prepares for a pivotal summer transfer window, aiming to rebound from one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory.
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe took on the role of co-owner in February, he has emphasized the need to revamp United’s recruitment strategy. This mission has spurred significant changes within the club’s hierarchy, leading to the departure of chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough.
To drive this new vision, United has brought in fresh leadership. Jason Wilcox, formerly Southampton’s director of football, has stepped in as the new technical director. Additionally, Omar Berrada is set to join from Manchester City as the chief executive on July 13. Dan Ashworth, leaving Newcastle United, will replace Murtough as sporting director, although his influence may not be felt until after this summer.
With this new team, United is focused on making strategic acquisitions to kickstart Ratcliffe’s rebuilding efforts. The primary targets include a new centre-back, central midfielder, and striker, with further signings depending on player sales.
Recently, during United’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal, agents representing Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko were spotted at Old Trafford. This visit hints at potential summer moves, as United aims to outmaneuver Newcastle for Adarabioyo, who will become a free agent on July 1. The 26-year-old is seen as a cost-effective replacement for Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, who are both nearing the end of their contracts. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are also expected to be sold.
Meanwhile, Sesko, previously linked with United before his move from RB Salzburg to Leipzig, remains on the club’s radar. His addition would bolster United’s attacking options as they strive to return to the top tier of English football.
