Sergio Reguilon, the Spanish left-back, could make a comeback for Manchester United in their upcoming Champions League match against FC Copenhagen. Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, confirmed Reguilon’s recovery from illness, providing a glimmer of hope for the club’s defensive options.

Reguilon has been sidelined for about a month, initially due to a hamstring injury sustained during a Premier League match against Burnley in September. Although he had recently returned to full fitness, an illness prevented him from participating in the victory over Sheffield United last Saturday.

During a press conference held on Monday, Erik ten Hag shared the promising news that Reguilon is now back in training and striving to be part of the team for the crucial match against Copenhagen at Old Trafford, scheduled for Tuesday night.

When asked about the potential return of any players against FC Copenhagen, Ten Hag responded, “Yes, we hope. I said it also last Friday, Sergio, he got ill for Saturday but he was fit, he trained all week last week. Yesterday he was, for a part, back in training, today he will train, and we have to assess if he is ready and game fit if he can be involved in the squad. We have to wait for that. We have to see if he is fit enough to be part of the squad for tomorrow.”

The possible return of Reguilon offers a significant boost for Erik ten Hag, who had to field a makeshift defense in their previous match, including players like Diogo Dalot, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof. Several key defenders, including Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia, are currently unavailable.

Additionally, Casemiro and Jadon Sancho remain sidelined, with Sancho’s absence particularly notable due to his recent public disagreement with Ten Hag.

After suffering defeats in their opening two Champions League games against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of a victory in Tuesday’s match, stating, “We have to win every game. If you lose the first two games, you definitely have to win.”

The potential return of Sergio Reguilon offers hope to Manchester United as they seek to regain their footing in the Champions League.
