With the transfer deadline looming, Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. The Spanish left back has impressed in his debut season in the Premier League, but has fallen out of favour with Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
United are in need of a left back after losing Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to long-term injuries. The club had initially targeted Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, but the deal stalled due to Chelsea’s high loan fee and Cucurella’s involvement in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
United have now turned their attention to Reguilon, who is seen as a cost-effective solution and a quality addition to the squad. United are also pursuing Sofyan Amrabat, a versatile midfielder from Fiorentina, who can play in various positions.
The loan deal for Reguilon is expected to have a break clause in January, which would allow either United or Spurs to terminate the agreement if they wish. This would also enable United to send Reguilon back to Spurs without violating the rule that prevents players from playing for three clubs in one season.
United are hopeful of completing the deals for Reguilon and Amrabat before the transfer deadline, as they look to strengthen their squad and challenge for trophies this season.
